Help
Everything runs in your browser, so most questions are about the three things around the maker: the free tier, licenses, and hosting. Not covered here? Contact us.
Getting started
- Open the maker and drop in a PDF. Slides work too - export them to PDF first (two clicks in PowerPoint or Google Slides).
- Watch the live preview while you set the title, colors, theme, and options. Every control shows its effect immediately.
- Click Build and download your flipbook: one self-contained HTML file, or a hostable folder. Nothing was uploaded at any point.
Free tier, licenses, and keys
What does the free tier include?
The first 3 pages of any document, with a small "Made with Riffle" badge on the viewer - never across your pages. Links, selectable text, themes, branding, and password protection are all included. No account, no trial clock.
What does a license change?
A license builds the whole document, badge-free: $7 for one document, $79 for twenty. It is a one-time purchase, not a subscription. Enter the key in the maker and it is checked on your device - no account, works offline.
Can I rebuild a licensed document later?
Yes, free, forever. New draft of the same PDF, new colors, new options - rebuilding a licensed document never costs again.
I lost my key.
Go to key recovery and enter your checkout email. Your keys are looked up with our payment provider and emailed to the address that bought them.
Output and hosting
Single file or folder - which should I pick?
The single HTML file is best for sharing directly: email, chat, USB, a file anyone double-clicks. The zip folder unpacks to index.html plus assets and is best for hosting on a website - it keeps the file sizes friendlier for web servers.
How do I put a flipbook behind a QR code?
Build the zip, unpack it onto your site (or any static host), and point the QR code at the folder's index.html. There is no Riffle server in the path and no recurring fee.
Does the flipbook work offline?
Yes. Built files are fully self-contained - they open from a local drive or a USB stick with no internet at all.
How does password protection work?
Your pages are encrypted with AES-256 inside the file and decrypted in the reader's browser when they enter the password. It is real encryption: if the password is lost, nobody can open the file - including us. Keep your original PDF.
Troubleshooting
My links are not clickable in the flipbook.
Riffle rebuilds the links that exist in the PDF. If the original only shows the text of a URL without a real link on it, there is nothing to carry over - re-export the PDF with live links from your design tool.
Text is not selectable.
Scanned documents are pictures of text, not text. Riffle carries over the PDF's real text layer when there is one; scans need OCR first.
A very large PDF is slow or heavy.
Riffle estimates the output size before building. Use the quality presets and page ranges to trim it, and prefer the zip format for heavy books - hundreds of pages build fine on a normal laptop.
The maker looks outdated after an update.
Your browser caches the maker for up to ten minutes. Hard-refresh the page (Ctrl+F5, or Cmd+Shift+R on a Mac) to get the newest version.
Is my document really private?
Yes - the conversion runs entirely in your browser and nothing is uploaded to any cloud or stored anywhere. Open your browser's network tab while you build: the page loads once and nothing leaves. Details in our privacy policy.
